Laser Driver Output

Objective

To see if there is current spikes appear on the laser driver output at startup and check if abnormal behavior

Test Setup

Kirdy Hardware: Rev0_2

  • Added Rev0_3 the soft start circuit at 12V Power Input

Kirdy Adapter: Rev0_1 Type 1

  • With on board Bias-T Modulation Jumper installed
  • Bias-T Input Port is left floating

Firmware: 285fc9b5d6

  • Laser Driver Related Boot Sequence: Open the LD Terminals -> Power up the DAC -> Set 150mA output current

Power Supply: Rigol DP832

  • Floating Power Supply
  • Apply 12V to the same net of the input power jack

Stimulus Source:

  • 1R Power Resistor is soldered to LD- and LD+ on the Laser Mount of Kirdy Adapter as load
  • Firmware sets the LD output current to 150mA at startup and LD terminals are not shorted together by relay on kirdy mainboard

Point of Measurement:

Purple

Result

There is no current spike at laser driver output during power on and power off

Power On

SDS2504X Plus_PNG_2
Note: There is charges left on the capacitor at 8V Power Rail in previous bootup. Therefore, LD- voltage is initially pull down to GND. Please see boot sequence.

Power Off

SDS2504X Plus_PNG_3

Laser Driver Output (Without Load)

Objective

To check open circuit voltage

Test Setup

Kirdy Hardware: Rev0_2

  • Added Rev0_3 the soft start circuit at 12V Power Input

Kirdy Adapter: Rev0_1 Type 1

  • With on board Bias-T Modulation Jumper installed
  • Bias-T Input Port is left floating

Firmware: 285fc9b5d6

Power Supply: Rigol DP832

  • Floating Power Supply
  • Apply 12V to the same net of the input power jack

Stimulus Source:

  • LD+ and LD- are left unconnected
  • Firmware sets the LD output current to 150mA at startup and LD terminals are not shorted together by relay on kirdy mainboard

Point of Measurement:

Yellow(LD+) and Purple(LD-)

image

Result

There is no current spike at laser driver output during power on and power off

Power On

SDS2504X Plus_PNG_4
Note: There is charges left on the capacitor at 8V Power Rail in previous bootup. Therefore, LD- voltage is initially pull down to GND. Please see boot sequence.

Power Off

SDS2504X Plus_PNG_5
Note: At power off, there would not be enough current driving the relay. Thus, LD+ and LD- are eventually shorted together in the relay.
